RRB NTPC Exam Pattern Stages

The RRB NTPC Graduate Level recruitment exam follows a structured pattern to assess candidates for various posts such as Station Master, Ticket Supervisor, Clerk, Typist, and Goods Train Manager. The exam is conducted in stages, and each stage has a specific weightage. Below are the details of the exam pattern

1. RRB NTPC Exam Pattern Stages

The RRB NTPC Graduate Level exam consists of the following stages:

  1. 1st Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-1)
  2. 2nd Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-2)
  3. Typing Skill Test/Computer-Based Aptitude Test (as applicable)
  4. Document Verification
  5. Medical Examination

2. 1st Stage CBT (Preliminary Exam)

The 1st Stage CBT is common for all posts and acts as a screening test.

The 1st Stage CBT is qualifying in nature, and its marks are used to shortlist candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT.


3. 2nd Stage CBT (Main Exam)

The 2nd Stage CBT is different for each post and is more specific to the roles.

4. Typing Skill Test (TST) / Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Typing Skill Test (TST): Required for posts like Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist. Candidates must demonstrate a typing speed of:
  • 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi.
  • The test is qualifying in nature.
  • Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Applicable for Station Master and Traffic Assistant posts.
  • There is no negative marking in CBAT.
  • Candidates need to secure a minimum qualifying mark of 42 in each of the test batteries.

5. Document Verification (DV)

After clearing the CBT-2 and skill tests (if applicable), candidates are called for document verification. They must bring all original documents and certificates as per the eligibility requirements.


6. Medical Examination

After successful document verification, candidates are required to undergo a medical fitness test to ensure they are physically fit for the job.


Key Points to Remember:

  • The final selection is based on the marks obtained in CBT-2 and the qualifying nature of the Typing Skill Test or Computer-Based Aptitude Test (if applicable).
  • There is negative marking in both CBT-1 and CBT-2, with a deduction of 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer.
  • The normalized score is used for the final merit list.
